I have updated my WooCommerce settings to hide out-of-stock items from the catalog. However, I’m unsure how to configure the sidebar catalog on the frontend to filter products directly from the database and exclude out-of-stock products from the count.

That section is essentially the sidebar, and the widget used there is called ‘Product Categories.’ If you edit this widget, you’ll find an option labeled ‘Hide empty categories.’ You can select this option, which is the only built-in solution. For any other customization or specific results, you may need to use a third-party plugin or implement custom code.
