        Hi,

I am getting close to moving the development site to the live domain. Dev is done on a ‘staging’ subdomain.

Is there anything I need to be aware of prior to this in order to maintain styling, licencing and functionality. E.g. should I deactivate the licence prior to the move and reactivate it to the new domain? Or do this afterwards.

        Many thanks,
        RJ

            Hello, @tim-leal,

Certainly! Here are the revised steps:

            1. Begin by installing the theme on your test/local site.
            2. Register the theme using the purchase code on the test/local site.
            3. Utilize the test/local site as needed.

Before transitioning the test/local site to the live/final site or activating the license on a fresh WordPress installation on the final/live site, you must first deregister the license from the test/local site. This can be done by navigating to Porto >> Theme License.

            1. Proceed to migrate the local/test site to the live/final site or install the theme on the fresh final live site.
            2. Once completed, re-register the theme on the final/live site using the same purchase code.

Following these steps should ensure proper functionality.

            Best Regards,
            PThemes Team.

                Thanks for the reply,

Your steps preserved the licence but all styling was lost as I experienced before.

You missed out the ‘Import/Export’ JSON download step as this contains custom settings and CSS.

                    Hello, @tim-leal,

Regrettably, the theme lacks settings for importing/exporting site content. In this case, you can reach out to your service provider to facilitate the migration from staging to live. They will manage the entire migration process, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Alternatively, you may choose to handle the migration yourself using an import/export plugin that meets your needs, albeit at your own risk.

You can try with Duplicator WordPress plugin as well.

                    Thank you for your understanding.

                    Best Regards,
                    PThemes Team.

I’m also encountering a similar situation. As I prepare to move the development site to the live domain, which has been developed on a ‘staging’ subdomain, I’m concerned about maintaining styling, licensing, and functionality. Should I deactivate the license before the move and reactivate it on the new domain? Or should I do this afterwards? Any insights or best practices on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Hello, @joeroot,

Well, migration styling and functionality are not covered in the theme support policy, you should have to use any third-party plugin for the migration of your site, you can try with the duplicator WordPress plugin as well, OR you can contact your hosting provider on this concern.

And relation to the license when migrating the site, please follow the instructions written in this thread: https://www.portotheme.com/forums/topic/site-migration-from-dev-to-live/#post-5083

                            Best Regards,

                                Hi Aizaz,

I think we are talking about something different.

I have migrated the content. I was talking about styling.

To preserve this I used the import/export tool in ‘Theme Options’. I’m not sure why you said the theme lacks this function as it is there. I downloaded the file from staging and uploaded to the live site.

This is what was missing in your steps. I was hoping to help someone who might come across a similar issue.

                                Thanks

                                    Hello, @tim-leal,

Sorry for the inconvenience but I think it was some misunderstanding.

But that was the theme options you exported and imported, and in migration not only this step is necessary, but how you transferred the content that is necessary, most of the time you used plugins to migrate the site, and those will automatically move the theme options as well.

But it sounds good that you used that import/export functionality of the theme to solve your issue and it is indeed the theme’s core feature: https://www.portotheme.com/wordpress/porto/documentation/advanced-options/

                                    Again sorry for the misunderstanding.

                                    Best Regards,
                                    PThemes Team.
