How book bloggers make reading trendy
The world continues to immerse itself in digital technologies, but at the same time, it is in our time that people are increasingly drawn to the real thing. Reading books not only does not lose its relevance but even acquires a new image, despite the stable popularity of electronic libraries. For example, Z-library, one of the largest platforms on the world wide web, offers a huge selection of books of various genres that can be read online or downloaded to your device.
One of the main forces behind the popularization of reading is book bloggers. On social networks, they share impressions of what they have read, discuss literary scandals, discuss new books, and shape reader tastes.
Book content on social networks
In the past few years, book content has begun to go beyond classic reviews. It’s interactive videos, reading challenges, unboxing, memes, podcasts, and even ASMR-style videos today.
TikTok has become a real phenomenon in popularizing reading. The hashtag #BookTok is no longer just a tag but a full-fledged subculture with millions of active participants. If, at first, many were skeptical about the possibility of talking about literature in 15-second videos, reality has proven the opposite. For example, Madeline Miller’s novel The Song of Achilles received a second wave of popularity precisely thanks to the video of one schoolgirl. Her emotional response gained over 6 million views, and a year later, the book topped the New York Times bestseller list.
A similar effect is observed on Instagram. Here, book bloggers not only write reviews but also organize reading marathons, communicate with subscribers in stories, and create aesthetic content.
In the age of digitalization, where all communication and even some work takes place through smartphones and computers, books have become one of the best forms of leisure that allow you to take a break from constant scrolling and sitting in front of a screen.
Reading communities: from book clubs to literary meetings
Reading communities have always existed, but today, they are experiencing a fundamental transformation. If earlier, they were intimate meetings in libraries, now they are often platforms where online and offline formats intersect.
For example, in the USA, Oprah Winfrey’s book club, which has existed since 1996, has had a significant impact on book sales. Each book she recommends almost instantly becomes a bestseller. Another famous club is actress Reese Witherspoon’s Reese’s Book Club. She chooses one book every month, focusing on women’s stories, and this significantly affects the popularity of the publications.
This trend is probably related to the consequences of the pandemic: after quarantines and social isolation, people yearned for communication and live meetings. The revival of book clubs has become a kind of “side effect” of this desire. Today, book clubs are not just a discussion about books but also a powerful tool for socialization and a source of new knowledge.
Of course, not all books become hits only because of mentions in social networks. Still, it is obvious that the modern book world is changing, and book bloggers play a significant role in this.
