How to Set Up WooCommerce One-Click Upsells
Picture this: customer buys a backpack, then bam!—an offer for a matching water bottle pops up – one click to order complete, no extra hassle. That’s the magic of one-click upsells, boosting your sales after the “Buy Now” button.
And if you’re using the popular and versatile Porto WooCommerce theme, you’re in luck!
This top-rated theme plays perfectly with many plugins, making it a breeze to set up these high-converting post-purchase offers. Known for its sleek design, speed, and versatility for all websites (especially online shops), Porto provides the ideal foundation.
This guide will show you how it generally works and point you towards a solid plugin to bring one-click upsells to your Porto-powered WooCommerce store.
What is a one-click upsell and how does it work?
A one-click upsell is a way to offer customers extra products or upgrades right after they make a purchase—without making them go through checkout again.
Here’s how it works in WooCommerce:
- After purchase, customers see a thank you page.
- Offer a relevant extra product or upgrade here.
- With saved payment info, they buy with one click.
- That’s a “one-click” or “post-purchase” upsell.
NOTE: Pre-Purchase vs. One-Click Upsells:
Unlike one-click upsells (which happen after payment), pre-purchase offers show up before the purchase is finalized. You’ll see them on product pages, in your cart, at checkout, or on special offer pages while you’re still deciding what to buy.
How to set up one-click upsell funnels in WooCommerce?
Regular WooCommerce doesn’t do one-click upsells. To get them, you need a smart plugin like Smart Offers (the money-maker!). It lets you show the right deals after checkout, when people are ready to buy more.
Besides one-click upsells, Smart Offers also handles regular upsells, cross-sells, order bumps, special offers, and even quick “Buy Now” buttons. So, even if someone misses an earlier offer, you can still show them targeted deals later on to boost sales at every stage.
Here are the steps:
Let’s set up a one-click upsell for someone buying a backpack. We’ll offer them a good quality sipper water bottle right after their purchase.
- Purchase, install and activate the Smart Offers plugin easily without any additional settings.
- Next, configure the payment gateways.
- Smart Offers supports the following payment gateways for one-click upsells:
- PayPal Standard
- Cash on Delivery
- Cheque Payments
- Direct Bank Transfer
- Stripe
- Braintree
Ensure that customers have at least one order paid via these gateways with saved cards enabled for the one-click functionality to work correctly.
- Now, go to WooCommerce > Smart Offers > Add New > Offer in your WordPress admin.
- Set the offer title for your internal use. For example: “Sipper Water Bottle Upsell for Backpack Buyers”.
- To set up the offer description, use the WordPress editor to create your offer description: change text style, add images/videos/buttons, and highlight discounts or limited-time deals.
- Or you can use a page builder like Elementor, Visual Composer etc. And for better customization of themes, go for the Porto WooCommerce theme.
- Just purchase, download and install. You can choose or customize themes from the porto zip file. Check the theme’s compatibility with Smart Offers.
- After you’re done with the offer description, click on “What to offer,” pick the sipper water bottle and set a discount (e.g., 20% off). Smart Offers also works with WooCommerce Subscriptions for one-click subscription product upsells.
- Next, under “Offer rules,” set the conditions for when the offer appears. You can target by product, user type, order total, and more. In this case, we show the offer when the backpack is in the cart with a quantity of 1.
- Under Show offer on page, select WooCommerce Order Complete page. This means the offer for the sipper water bottle will appear right after the customer finishes buying the backpack.
- Under Show offer as, choose an Upsell popup.
- Under Accept Actions, select “Add offered product to cart” and “Enable one click checkout with Buy Now”.
- Under Skip Actions, choose what should happen if the offer is declined. You can select one option from the list.
That’s it! Now, when a customer buys the backpack and reaches the order confirmation page, they will see a special offer for the sipper water bottle with a single click to add it to their order.
Want to offer a “buy this, get that” deal or suggest related items with just one click?
Yep! You can show other helpful products (cross-sells) or a “buy one, get one free” deal as one-click upsells right after someone buys something.
The goal is to make more money, and guess what? Offering things that go well together as an extra deal can boost how many people buy by at least 10%! Sometimes it can even jump up by 25% or 30%.
Why do post-purchase upsells win?
- Instant buy: Customers add to their order with one click – no re-entering payment info.
- Higher conversion: Offer relevant extras to buyers who’ve already committed.
- Less email needed: Skip the extra emails; customers see the offer right away.
- Easier for customers: Suggest related items they likely need, saving them time searching.
- More control for you: If customers accept your first upsell, you can redirect them to a second offer. If they decline, present them with a discounted downsell option to improve your chances of making a sale.
- Bigger orders and more sales: Selling more per order and more often boosts your revenue.
Conclusion
One-click upsells are a must-have for easy, automatic revenue. Think phone case with a phone – it’s a natural extra sale! You’ll likely earn way more than you spend, maybe 4x, 10x, or even 20x your investment. Trust me, once Smart Offers start making you money, you won’t want to turn it off.
